Name allows you to easily control the addresses on the Internet, based on DNS (Domain Name System).
Domain names are used in different contexts and applications online, has the specific purpose of naming and addressing.
Prominent example is the (top level Internet domains - TLD) .Com, .Net and .Org. Below in the DNS hierarchy are the second and third-level domain names, which are open for reservation and registration by the end users, who want to:
- connect local networks to the Internet,
- run Web Sites,
- or any other form of public access to the resources of the Internet.
Registration of these domains is usually administered by domain name registrars who sell their services.
The following example illustrates the difference between a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) and a domain name:
- URL: http://www.coolfhosting.com/server.php
- Domain name: www.coolfhosting.com
- Registered domain name: coolfhosting.com
